The San Jose Redevelopment Agency is a major supporter and partner of the US Market Access Center (US MAC). The San Jose Redevelopment Agency (SJRA) is a public, non-profit organization created in 1956 by the City to improve the quality of life for all who live, work, and play in San Jose by creating jobs, developing affordable housing, strengthening neighborhoods, and building public facilities. Governed by the San Jose City Council who serve as the Redevelopment Agency Board, the SJRA partners with business and the community to revitalize the economy in San Jose. The SJRA is the largest tax increment -producing redevelopment agency in California and is active in 22 Project Areas throughout San Jose. SJRA Project Areas represent approximately 25% of the City’s area and provide almost 40% of San Jose jobs.
Through a balanced series of investments and initiatives, the SJRA facilitates and oversees comprehensive programs for development to revitalize the City’s Downtown, neighborhoods, and industrial areas. JETRO, the Japan External Trade Organization, is a government-related organization that works to promote mutual trade and investment between Japan and the rest of the world. JETRO established the U.S.-Japan Business Innovation Center (BIC) in San Jose in 2001 to support Japanese technology ventures and SMEs seeking to build presence and grow their business in the United States. The San Jose State University Research Foundation (SJSURF) is the US Market Access Center’s most prominent academic partner as the fiscal sponsor of the US MAC. For more than 70 years, the SJSURF has provided the entrepreneurial framework through which the San Jose State University faculty successfully partner with government agencies, corporations, and foundations to perform cutting-edge research, public service, and other specialized projects which are vital to a community of scholars and to society as a whole. As a private non-profit corporation, the Foundation manages research contracts and grant awards of approximately $50M per year and also administers contributions made on behalf of SJSU to fund scholarships, faculty development, capital programs, laboratory equipment and other important academic initiatives. It supports University research projects and provides an entrepreneurial infrastructure for faculty.
In addition to the US MAC, the SJSURF manages the San Jose BioCenter, Software Business Cluster, and Environmental Business Cluster. The Software Business Incubator Cluster alone itself has been responsible for attracting $475 million in capital, creating 2,500 jobs, and more than 130 new products, a very health return on the city’s investment. http://www.sjsufoundation.org
